Cinco De Mayo

Holla Amigos!

How was every one's Cinco De Mayo?!

I know I haven't been blogging for a while because I've been a busy college student (YUCK!) However, I had such a wonderful Sunday and Cinco De Mayo that I just HAD to tell all about it :)

So, as many of you know, I go to The University of Kansas and my parents just recently moved to Kansas City. For all of you non-Kansans, that's about a 25 minute drive home. With my brother, sister, and brother-in-law living in Kansas City as well, my parents decided to throw a Fiesta!

{ of course I had to dress accordingly }

My parents had a Tostadas Bar that was nothing short of delicious! My sister made a Sopapilla Cheesecake that was OUTSTANDING! I can get the recipe from my sister if any of you want to try it!

{I forgot to take my own pic. so this is one I found online. Before you eat drizzle some honey and cinnamon sugar on top! YUM!}

After filling our tummies and practically going into a "food coma", we decided to play some games! My family loves playing board games along with some card games when we get together, not to mention how competitive it can get. {You haven't experienced competitive until you've witnesses a game of Porter family Spoons!}

...but that didn't last too long before our A.D.D. started to kick in. Ha!

{Exhibit A: Millie}

{Exhibit B: Bella "Beast"}
My older sister and Parents were having a little too much fun with this one!

I think it is safe to say we have pretty photogenic doggies!

!¿How did you celebrate Cinco De Mayo?!

Oh Happy Day!

Through the rain and thunder we finally got my sister (lifeofmeg) HITCHED!!

On Saturday, March 9th,2013, I got to stand next to my one and only sister as she got married!

From the venue to the flowers and even the candy bar, everything was absolutely perfect! Even through the pouring-down rain... It is safe to say that this was one special weekend filled with love and laughter!

All the festivities (for the girls) started Friday morning with the Bridal Luncheon. My aunt and cousins threw a beautiful luncheon in downtown Kansas City.

{Lunch was at the Webster House in downtown Kansas City}

We spend the rest of the afternoon getting our pedicures and getting all "dolled" up for the rehearsal dinner. The dinner last night was at Grand Street Cafe and was simply AMAZING!

{My absolute favorite was their White Cheddar Fondue Pretzel, or in other words, a really fancy pretzel with cheese dip!}

The Wedding Day

Although I don't have too many pictures from that night, but I do have a few that I took from my phone. The wedding and reception was at The Hawthorne House and couldn't have been anymore perfect. Here is the lovely couple and their first dance to Ben Rector's Forever Like That... the Perfect song for them!

A little before pictures while waiting to kick the night off!

My wedding hair which I LOVED!
The hair and makeup people were able
to come to us which was nice.
Waiting for the ceremony in the basement
that had no heat...we had to improvise warmth
with table cloths!

Everyone had soo much fun dancing the night away, including my mom! She is always the first one on the dance floor and the last one off.
{My mom and I killing it on the dance floor showing off our "Stanky Leg"...HA!}

...And of course I had to add a picture of me and my handsome date :) We were so happy Tyler could make it to the wedding! We are coming upon our 2 year anniversary in a week and a half! wooohoo!

I hope you all had just as an amazing weekend as we did!

The Bachelor Finale!

Who all watched the season finale of The Bachelor last night?!

Yes, I'll admit it, I'm one of those crazy girls who is obsessed with The Bachelor and Bachelorette. Not only do I love it for the fairy-tail endings....(sometimes) but I love the drama, especially with the bachelor! I also love trying to place my finger on who he is going to chose early in the season (it usually changes 3-4 times). I feel like I had a new favorite girl every week!

Lindsay or Catherine?!

Going into this episode I was a Lindsay fan for sure. However, after seeing the chemistry I moved over to team Catherine! He honestly probably couldn't have gone wrong with either.

{{How about that ring!}}

 I'm curious to see who you thought would win and why!Is anyone still a Lindsay fan?Did Sean make the right choice???

Let's take a Poll...

Who Did You Want to Win Sean's Heart?

Also, What do you think about Desiree being the new Bachelorette? Thoughts? Feelings??

I'd love to hear and discuss your input! This is my one "Chick-Flick" blog of the month so I had to go ahead and get it out of the way ;)

Have a Terrific Tuesday!

What's Your Winter Fashion Fad??

Good Morning to all my Fashionistas out there!

For those of you who know me you would realize that I am an avid Pinterest kind of gal. I love keeping up to date with today's fashion as well as finding fun, new crafts to make! You name it and I'll figure out how to make it! I also love looking through clothes and finding out where I can buy them, but have you ever ran into something you REALLY loved and could buy it in a heartbeat but when you clicked on the picture it brought you to nowhere?? This happens to me all the time, so all the clothes I love I can never find out where they come from.

However, this post today isn't necessarily about Pinterest. I don't know if I'm out of the loop or if I'm one of the first out of all my friends to stumble upon this amazing site called Wanelo! Wanlo has almost the same layout of pinterest. The only difference is that Wanelo has a direct link for every item. For every item there is a "BUY NOW" button. Now, I know this may sound dangerous because if you're anything like me then you'll buy everything if you're not careful! There is a "Save" button that you can select a category to save it under. I have started a "Christmas Wish List" in mine which makes Christmas buying easier for everyone!

For having known of this site for over a month now, I have been a good girl and have only bought 2 items so far.

{The first Item I got was this super cute over-size sweater!}
http://www.indressme.com/beige-bat-sleeve-loose-shrug-sweater
I've been wanted an over-sized sweater to wear with leggings and this was perfect because it was long enough to wear with leggings. I love this because is VERY comfy and warm... Also if you sign up for the first time, you will receive 15% off!

I had originally thrown on a grey infinity scarf with it but I just have taken it off in this picture. I got so many compliments on it and some even said it looked really expensive and were shocked that I paid less than $40 for it!

Now lets talk LEGGINGS!

Leggings are by far one of my favorite winter fashions this year. Why not spice up your outfit a little bit with different colors/patters of leggings?! I'm all about the crazy pattern leggings! I'm not sure if you can tell, but in the picture above is one of my simpler looks. My leggings are grey with a darker grey pattern of different kinds of lines and snowflakes!

When I was looking on Wanelo, I found the BEST deal on fun leggings!
$6.00 for one pair! So in celebration of finding a great deal... I decided to treat myself to 2 pairs :)

{Don't pay attention to the hideous boots}
The actual site had more than four but I ordered the pair above with the snowflakes with yellow and blue stripes (3rd one). The other pair I got was similar to the ones on the end but a tad different. They have snowflakes and reindeer with different patterned lines than the ones above!

Unfortunately, the link to these leggings is not available anymore, but I'm sure if you Google cheap winter leggings than you'll surely run into something!

What is your Winter Fashion Fad??

Happy "Owloween"

Happy {LATE} Halloween!

In case you have already written Sandy Toes & Salty Kisses off your blog list just wait!

I know I haven't been blogging lately but I promise you this is worth it ;)

As you all know, this past week was Halloween and it just so happened to be my first Halloween up here in Lawrence. I had such a fun week with my friends making our Halloween costumes.

For the first costume, four of my friends on my door floor and I decided we wanted to make our own costumes this year....from scratch! We went to Hancock Fabrics to buy our supplies and got busy!

Objective: CRUSH Soda Can Dresses

Two our of the five of us! to my left is Megan (Orange Crush) and to my right is Annie (Grape Crush).

Surprisingly this girl had a sewing machine on our floor and slowly but surely we made the base for our dresses.

Next, we sewed on the silver sparkly ribbon to represent the silver lining on the can... (obvi). Then we started painting away!

Finally, three days later we had finished out CRUSH costumes!

This was such a fun and CHEAP way to make a Halloween costume....at least compared to some of the Halloween stores. All in all, we each paid roughly $20 for all the materials. Not to bad for a college budget, eh?!

If that wasn't enough...

The Friday after Halloween, Chi Omega had their date party, "Owloween". Chio's symbol is the Owl for those of you who aren't familiar with the Greek system!

For this party, I decided to dress my date and I up as the little yellow minions from the Pixar movie, Despicable Me. I'm obsessed with these little guys! Once again, I decided to make our costumes from scratch...
Items Needed:
Overalls (Good Will)
Yellow Hoodie (Walmart)
Black Sunglasses Frames ( I got mine at Dollar Tree and popped the lenses out)
Black Gloves
Black Shoes
Black Pipe Cleaners

Unfortunately, Tyler (the BF) had his Air Force Drill Duty back home at the military base that weekend so he couldn't be my date :(  so I took his best friend Austin instead!

I hand sewed all the pipe cleaners on the hoodies for the hair.

{What did you do for Halloween??}

Have a Wonderful Thrilling Thursday :)

Family Rules

Good Morning My Long-Lost Bloggers!

I know that this is "against blogging rules," but I'm going to say it anyways! I'm so sorry I haven't blogged in over a month! This blog is way overdue..

I've been so busy lately with Moving to Lawrence, going through sorority recruitment  (S/O to all the Chi Omega's out there....Hoot Hoot), and settling into the "college life."

However, I DID find some free time to get back into the habit of blogging to all of you wonderful people :)

~Short and Simple~
I just fell in love with this sign. This WILL be in my future house

How adorable and true is this sign?!
Just thought I would share a "Feel Good Moment" today :)

Have a Wonderful - Witty Wednesday!

College Necessities

Goodbye Wichita...Hello Lawrence!

Last night my parents told me that my Grandpa wanted to go to dinner with me and my parents at Pacific Coast Pizza ... Little to MY surprise, my entire family was throwing me a Going Away Party! I had NO idea! I was speechless (which never happens)! Anyways, we had such a good night eating pizza, chit chatting, and playing KU trivia games! My mom had emailed everyone my color scheme of my dorm room and what I still need to get, and everyone pitched in to make it happen!

I decided to put together a College Dorm Room blog for anyone who is in the same boat about leaving for college. I have separated everything into certain categories. We can exchange ideas!

~Lets get started~

{Bedding}

First off, I had to show off my bedding... Just imagine this on a twin size bed! My (Twin XL) comforter is from The Company Store and my warm colored sheets are from Pottery Barn. As for my pillows and throw....I have my wonderful Aunt Sheryl to thank for those! Also, I can't forget my adorable Jayhawk Pillow Pet that I just adore!

{Shower Supplies}

Next, we have all my shower supplies. these are just a few towels I have received. Just to make sure you have everything I have provided a list!

  • Shower Caddy (one that water can seep though and everything can dry easily)
  • Towels (4)
  • Wash Cloths
  • Shampoo & Conditioner
  • Body Soap
  • Loofah (If wanted)
  • SHOWER SHOES (especially for shared bathrooms in dorms!)
{Laundry}
Laundry cnd be pretty generic stuff. Whatever gets the job done. I wish you could see my laundry detergent bottle, haha my grandpa decided to tape a million quarters onto it!
Here is what I am bringing....
  • Hamper (one that folds away for easy storage)
  • Hangers
  • Door hangers (for towels, robes, etc...)
  • Detergent
  • Dryer Sheets
  • Laundry basket
  • Tissues
  • Air Freshener
  • Trash Can
{KU Decor}

I love all my KU decor that I received. Everyone should have a little school spirit in their living space, right??
  • Once again, my Jayhawk Pillow Pet!
  • Camelbak
  • Tumbler
  • Umbrella (you're definitely going to wish you had one of these on the first day it rains when you're walking to class!)

{Wall Decor}

Just a few random wall decorations that can come in pretty handy at times!

  • Dry Erase Board
    • One that has either a weekly or monthly schedule on it
    • One plain one for outside the dorm room so people can leave messages when you're away
  • Wall Clock
  • Body Mirror
    • One that can hang over the door
Of course I had to have some hanging paper lanterns! I wanted more light in my dorm, but in a cute way! These are from Pottery Barn, they come in all sizes and colors. I have a bigger teal one that is coming in the mail this week. I can thank Sister {Life of Meg} for these :)

My mom and I also found these big, pink circular wall stickers. The cool part is that you can use dry erase on them too! We found these at Bed Bath & Beyond. They can be found at Office Max as well.

One thing that I did not have pictured would be a First Aid Kit.

Anyways, I hope this helped you figure out how you want to decorate your room, and figure out what you should bring. If you are not part of the college crowd, then I'm glad I could share my thoughts and ideas with you all :)

Have a Fabulous Friday!
